November- Grandpa Walt went to heave to be with the angles!


November 6th before Hazel went to bed she insisted on looking outside at the moon. "Walt, Walt, Hi Hazel said as she waved while gazing up in the sky. I started to cry and Hazel looked at me with the most compassionate sweet little face. WOW!!!! Grandpa Walt, just passed away on Friday two days before.  He is now with the angels singing glory. Grandpa Walt was a wonderful man who has left an amazing legacy.Cheers to celebrating the life of an amazing grandfather.

Walter John Hinsch, 83, of Red Wing, died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 4, at his home, with his wife and family at his side.



Walt was born on Sept. 7, 1928, in Red Wing, the son of Walter and Olga (Nelson) Hinsch. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1946. After graduation, he had a variety of jobs, including: driving a milk truck, working at the Goodhue and Vasa Creameries, and as a farm hand. In 1954, he moved to Red Wing, where he worked at Super Valu Grocery Store, Red Wing Police Department, Lee Lines Bus Company, and Walser Motors. On June 20, 1955, Walt was united in marriage to Shirley Sattergren at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing.

Walt enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, fishing, hunting, and playing cards with family and friends. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending Riser's Breakfasts.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Kathy (Terry) Lindner, Lori (Patrick) Keane, Margie (George) Thoma, and Todd (Sherry) Hinsch; eight grandchildren, Shalene (Adam), Leah (Mike), Heather (Mike), Bryce (Jen), Bridget, Laura, Paul, Elizabeth; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Jenna, Hazel, and Walt was looking forward to the arrival of another great-grandchild later this month, "Butterball," due at Thanksgiving; sister-in-law Lorraine Hinsch; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ray and Jim (Yvonne) Hinsch.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
